ITW Red Head Dynabolt Sleeve Anchors
Published by Robert Carlisle on Jun 16th 2011
Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchors are a versatile medium duty masonry fastener. They are specified for anchorage into concrete, grout filled concrete block, hollow concrete block, and brick. The ITW Red Head Dynabolt Sleeve Anchor can be purchased at www.concretefasteners.com where you will pay up to 50% less than at retail outlets.
How Dynabolt Sleeve Anchors Work
The ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor features a split expansion sleeve that fits over a threaded stud bolt. The bolt has an expander on one end and threads for a nut and washer on the other end. As the nut is turned clockwise, the expander spreads the split expansion sleeve and expands against the inside wall of the hole in the base material.
Dynabolt Advantages
The ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor offers a number of advantages that make it simple to use as well as provides excellent holding values in different types of base material:
- Diameter of the hole drilled in the base material is the same diameter as the designated diameter of the Dynabolt sleeve anchor being installed.
- Available in the acorn head, hex head, flat head and round head for application versatility and, for special applications, the tie wire, and threshold version.
- Wide range of diameter from 1/4” to 3/4” for light duty to medium duty fastenings.
- Lengths from 5/8” to 6-1/4” accommodating a wide range of thickness of material to be fastened.
- Both zinc plated carbon steel and 304 stainless steel are available to provide indoor or outdoor applications.
- Each ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor come pre-assembled and packaged ready to be used.
- Installation is possible through the fixture in place, allowing for no spotting of the hole.
Head Styles
Each 1/4” diameter ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor comes with an acorn nut and washer, and all other diameters of 5/16” to 3/4” come with a hex nut and washer. The flat head Phillips ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchors are available in the 1/4” and 3/8” diameter in four different lengths. The threshold flat head, round head and tie wire are available only in the 1/4” diameter and only in one length.
Diameter
The anchor diameter is equal to the outside diameter of the anchor and equals the diameter of the hole that needs to be drilled into the base material. The rod diameter or the size of the nut for any particular dynabolt sleeve anchor is smaller than the designated diameter.

Minimum Embedment
Each diameter of ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor must be installed into the base material a minimum distance to allow for minimum holding values.

Effective Anchor Length
The designated length of the ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor is measured differently for different type head configurations. All hex, acorn, and round head sleeve anchors lengths are measured from underneath the head. The flat and threshold anchors are measured as an overall length including the head. The designated length of the anchor equals the effective length of the anchor.
Bit Diameter
The bit must be a carbide tipped masonry bit that meets ANSI standards and is used in a hammer drill that is positioned in the hammer and rotation mode. It must be the same diameter as the diameter of the ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor being installed and must meet ANSI standards. For example, a 5/8” Dynabolt sleeve anchor requires a 5/8” ANSI standard carbide tipped bit.
Depth of Hole
The hole in the base material must be drilled to a depth exceeding the minimum embedment depth for the diameter of ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor being installed. Drilling the depth of the hole to equal one anchor diameter deeper than the minimum embedment depth will create space for debris created during the installation process to fall and will ensure that the ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor will not bottom out in the hole before reaching minimum embedment depth.
Description
The description of the ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor uses the diameter as the first number and uses the length as the second number. For example, a 3/8” x 1-7/8” ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor is 3/8” in diameter by 1-7/8” long.

Installation
- With a carbide tipped bit that meets ANSI standards and is equal in diameter to the designated diameter of the ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor being installed, drill a hole in the base material.
- Drill the hole to any depth exceeding the minimum embedment depth for the diameter of ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor being installed.
- Clean hole.
- Insert the ITW Red Head Dynabolt sleeve anchor through the fixture and into the hole in the base material until the washer and head are flush with the surface of the fixture.
- With a wrench, turn the head clockwise 2 to 3 turns.
